Whether you need window treatments, carpeting, hardwood, luxury vinyl planks or laminates, we have everything you need at our Clearlake location, now also serving the Lakeport area: 3511 Redwood St., Clearlake.
Adam Knernschield founded The Carpet Man in 1976, opening the first location in Clearlake and a second location in Lakeport several years later. In 1992, The Carpet Man joined Floors To Go. With over 200 stores, we offer the buying power of big-box retailers while maintaining a local service focus. Adam has always aimed to provide small-town service combined with the selection and pricing of a big city.
In January 2020, The Carpet Man became a second-generation business when Adam passed it on to his son, AJ Knernschield, along with long-time employee Nancy Johnson. Together, they are continuing The Carpet Man tradition.
AJ Knernschield grew up in Hidden Valley Lake. During high school, he learned the flooring trade from the ground up, starting as an installer. After graduation, he spent several years in the auto industry, where he customized high-end street rods. This experience helped him develop his artistic skills and eye for design. AJ and his family reside in Hidden Valley Lake.
Nancy Johnson is a lifelong resident of Clearlake. Shortly after graduating from Lower Lake High School, she began her career at The Carpet Man. With more than 35 years of experience in the business, she is well-versed in all aspects, from sales to ordering to scheduling. Nancy exemplifies the saying, “If you want something done, ask a busy person.” In addition to her full-time role at The Carpet Man, she serves on the board of directors for the SPCA of Lake County and is a member of the steering committee for 100+ Women Strong - Lake County.
